Three Towns, One Flag: Halton flies Pride Flag

Across the Halton region, Pride Month began with a unified message of visibility, inclusion, and community as each municipality raised the Progress Pride Flag to mark the start of June.
"This is about visibility, inclusion and community," said Pride Halton founder Melanie Tremills during Milton's ceremony on May 29. "It's about people feeling safe and respected for who they are. It's a powerful message that you belong, and that love shines brighter than hate."
In Milton, the flag was raised at 10 a.m. following a proclamation by Mayor Gord Krantz. Students from E.C. Drury School for the Deaf hoisted the flag with the help of town councillors, while students from Martin Street Public School and community members—including Liberal MP Kristina Tesser Derksen and Pride Halton volunteers—gathered to mark the occasion. Approximately 80 people attended, creating a strong show of local support.
Later that same day, celebrations continued in Halton Hills, where about 25 attendees gathered at Town Hall for another flag-raising ceremony. The event brought together community partners and sponsors, including representatives from Norval United Church, the Halton Hills Public Library, and Hey Ray Realty.
In Oakville, the flag was raised on June 1 at Town Hall, with Mayor Rob Burton in attendance. Pride Halton Marketing Coordinator Nathan Gallagher delivered the proclamation and raised the flag. The ceremony also included members of the Halton Paramedics union and representatives from Liberal MP Anita Anand's office.
Together, these events show how communities across Halton are standing together in support of diversity and belonging. From civic leaders to students and local organizations, the message across all four towns is clear: everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and included.
